I’m a native North Carolinian, world traveler, and mother of three children: one driving age, one voting age, and one drinking age. I have been, among other things, a fast food drive-thru worker, middle school teacher, and wine accessories salesperson. I live in Chapel Hill.

I have more than a dozen years’ experience writing and editing professionally, mostly as a weekly columnist/contributor/editor with newspapers in North and South Carolinas, but also as a book and magazine editor. I’m a member of the North Carolina Writers’ Network and currently earn a living in the construction industry.

I hold a bachelors degree in Special Education from Appalachian State University (Boone, NC) and a masters degree in Creative Writing from NC State University (Raleigh.)

Give me some Champagne or a Negroni and I will talk your ear off. Some of it may be inappropriate.  I do have noticeable obsessions with fresh ricotta cheese, onions, eggplant, Jimmy John’s, and Utz Red Hot potato chips.

My favorite Pandora stations include Michael Franti, John Prine, and Amy Winehouse. The last movies I watched were Hustle and Flow and Oh Brother Where Art Thou? Now that I think about it, they have some rather remarkable thematic similarities.

The last books I read were Dimestore by Lee Smith, Everything Ravaged Everything Burned by Wells Tower, and Naked by David Sedaris, and I would like you to note that those are all North Carolina writers. My greatest literary influence, however, is Stephen King.
